Harmonic Wideband Tuners 0.2-120 GHz

Overview
Focus Microwaves’ Harmonic Tuners (MPT) were developed in 2004 in response to customer demand for advanced impedance control tools. These tuners operate across a wide frequency range (0.2 to 120 GHz) and are essential for nonlinear device characterization and power amplifier design.

Historical Insight
Persistent Customer request inspired the development leading to the following internal initiative (from May 2004): “19 May 2004, Christos to staff engineers:
“I think we can use the Triple-Probe Tuner as a harmonic load pull tuner tool! The tuner is calibrated, say, at 400 points for fo, 2fo and 3fo, for all 3 probes. This will take, say, 20 minutes! The combined impedances are 400³ = 64 million. If we want to tune to a set of impedances: Γ(fo) = Γ0, Γ(2fo) = Γ2 and Γ(3fo) = Γ3, then we create a tolerance mask: Γ0 ± ΔΓ0, Γ2 ± ΔΓ2, Γ3 ± ΔΓ3 and check the big matrix for points, which satisfy these conditions. When we have a first solution, we then go around it and create a finer grid around each point at each frequency using second order interpolation and do a second run for the closest solution. I think two iterations will be enough….” Click here to see the original note
